NiSSOT - NEW GENERATION
design: Milan Knížák
SHARK
I envision this handle to be placed in luxurious interiors of a modern character, used by people of sharp intellect and with a good dose of courage. The handle symbolizes tension, a desire to break off from the doorframe, to shoot forward, and to, perhaps, come back as a boomerang at times. The handle can be made out of various materials, but the most impressive result would come from using high-grade metals, while the most exquisite handles are to be made from rare woods of distinct natural pattern. What I have in mind here is mainly the underlay plate of the handle, but also part of the handle itself can be made out of wood. The use of glass is not ruled out either.
TARGET
The older generation surely remembers the handles that were used in public restrooms, where it was necessary to signal when the room was occupied. For this a target was placed on the underlay plate of the handle, on which signs "free" and "occupied" were switching mechanically. Target is an "aesthetic" version of such traditional handle. It is suitable to be placed basically anywhere. The handle looks pragmatic and is not designed for any particular consumer group. It can be used in hotels, office buildings, and of course also in private households.
JOIN
The touch board of this handle forms sort of a connecting point, a bridge, a bond. This symbolizes a connection of two individual parts, of two personalities, two worlds. This symbol appears elegant and at the same time offers a number of different meanings. The handle can be used anywhere, coming in both luxury and common styles.
HEART
I imagine that a father would install these handles to his beloved daughters' rooms, a newly wed to the love nest shared with his loved one, or it could be used by an enthusiast, who wants the whole world to connect with love. The symbol of a heart is not likely to offend anyone, so the handle can be used in almost all types of interiors.
ARROW
In some ways this handle resembles Shark but it is more rigid, does not carry the same amount of tension, and at the same time has more force. I can imagine that this handle would be used by people with a sense for geometry, for order, who also show signs of leadership ambitions. This is why the handle is appropriate for government offices, for the seats of the political parties or for police academies. On the other hand, its simple elegance makes the handle fitting basically anywhere.
CLIFF
This handle comes in two variations, while it might also come in more different versions. Its essential feature is that the surfaces of the switches are positioned at an oblique angle in regards to the rectangular positioning of the handle, which suggests certain instability, movement, unrest. A number of my design projects work with movement, even if only indirectly, i.e. when the movement is only enciphered in the design, hidden, functioning as an inspiration of a movement more than an actual movement. The obliquely positioned elements look also elegant and bring a delicate aesthetic excitement even into otherwise boring interiors.
